How to Plant a Bonsai Tree

Bonsai plants have been trained and grown in shallow containers, so they frequently require daily watering in hot weather. In winter, tender bonsai have to go inside or in a greenhouse; rugged plants can remain outside as long as they're shielded from drying wind and direct sunlight.

Step 1: Prep Root Ball

Remove the plant from the own nursery container, and then cut off the base two-thirds of the main ball. Rake throughout the dirt on the outside to expose a few origins. Moisten all of the roots with a spray bottle.

Step 2: Put Root Ball in Pot

Remove dead branches and any branches which divert from the vision you've got for your shrub. Remove any dead branches and some other big roots which will interfere with potting. Position the plant from the bud, also work dirt in around the roots. Top the dirt with moss or gravel, and water well.

Step 3: Start Shaping Tree

Pick which branches will gain from forming. To attain the desired shape, wrap cable closely but not so close that it inhibits expansion (this can help direct the division to grow in the path and shape you need ). After the branch has increased enough to maintain its new contour, remove the cable.
